I generally do my best to get out of any gathering that my parents are involved in. Going to a relatives place, a night out for whatever etc. I just don't like doing it. One thing I really cant handle is being around lots of greeks. They just piss me off. Theres no solid reasoning for this, just that my skin crawls and I want to be elsewhere. Kinda like a phobia. Except being scared of spiders is fucking self explanatory.
So the previous day my dad started to talk me into going to an aunties birthday. I was like no. Hes like its her 80th. So I was all like oh fucking hell. I cant say no to an 80th. You just don't do that. Especially when they like me. So last night I braved it just for her. Did I mention I don't like greeks?
The place we were invited to was a Greek Tavern. ie, greek food, greek waiters, greek fucking clients. I was just traumatised. We went inside and it was wall to wall wogs. My auntie and other family friends were all super happy to see me since its a rare occasion when I actually bother to show up somewhere, given that I prefer to be on my own playing a game or watching something. So they were pleased as punch and couldn't stop chatting to me. This wouldn't be a problem if not for the fucking live band 2 tables away. Could hardly hear anything. Greek band too.
And then the worst part of all, something I truly hate.. Instead of ordering the dish we want, instead we got plate after plate of appetisers and small mains. So everyone was grabbing from small plates. I fucking LOATHE this. Why? Cause 90% of the shit is stuff I don't want to eat. So to mask my absolute disgust, I'd grab a little of something I could stomach and eat it very slowly. I had to do my absolute best not to shriek at my mum who kept trying to put food on my place. I'm not fucking 12!
Ugh, hated hated. Totally hated. I'm not sure which would be worse, the night I suffered or spending a whole day with Jed. I hear he sniffs his chair after he farts. True story.
That sounds like fun :D You should write long posts more often, man...
ReplyDeleteI usually try not to since I think people might find it boring lol. Then again its hard to write little when you're bitching about something haha
DeleteWell I don't know about people, but as for me, bitch away!
DeleteI'm pretty surprised that you dislike most greek stuff, could it because you are sick and tired of being around it? (people, food, cultures)
ReplyDelete- cashleycool
Its possible. It never bugged me when I was a teenager. Had heaps of greek friends. My poor parents hate that I dont like greek stuff lol
DeleteNext time, take it more like a history lesson, learn a bit. Only use you'll get out of the experience.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure it's the Greek thing, or that you're being pushed out of your comfort zone by relatives so often...and said relatives happen to be Greek, making you indirectly dislike anything that reminds you of them?
My comfort zone is fairly large so most things seem to push at it. You should of seen my discomfort when I was visiting greece for a month a few years back. That was a task and a half lol
DeleteSomewhat surprised that you're xenophobic towards Greeks. Perhaps you're just tired of being around it so much and need to relocate?
ReplyDeleteMy dislike of them is sort of different to xenophobic. Greeks are very outgoing and talkative. I'm just the opposite. I used to be like that but just lost all interest in using that extra energy. With the older greeks I dont have a problem. Its the younger ones that bug me. the guys are overly douchy and the girls are overly skankish. It just outright bugs me. Lately they're borderline to what you see on shit like jersey shore. Cant stand it. Oh sure theres plenty that are normal, but I bump into the braindead versions way more often. The good thing about greeks is they're always happy to help someone out.
DeleteAaaah, that makes more sense. It's very similar to the Bosnians in my country then. You just bump into too many douchbags (especially the young ones) as opposed to the normal ones. Thanks for clearing that up.
DeleteNah, I understand it. I have a Greek friend who isn't a typical Greek (she's quite geeky, and not overly family oriented) and it does her head in when she goes to Greek family parties. Because Greek people (it seems) are officially the LOUDEST people in the world, lol.
DeleteExcept for Con. He's obviously one of the quieter ones ;)
and non douchy!
DeleteTrue dat! You're the friendliest Greek in the village.
