The recent stuffs

So whats been happening with me lately..  Lets see...  I had my camera in for repairs like I mentioned a long while back.  Finally told all the errors on it are fetaures and I owe them $66 to have the camera mailed back to me, because every ones a fucking pirate.  Tried to sort something out with panasonic but they said they couldnt do anything about it.  Told them that was the last time I'd be buying a product of theirs.  At least it makes my next camera choice an easier one.  It was a toss up between panasonics latest line or sonys.  Despite not being a fan of sony, I know a good product when I see one.  RX100 III is a possible future purchase.  But I cant think about stuff like that until I find a job.

I recently bought this screen protector for my phone.  However to have it posted here it was going to cost me $50.  I'd like to mention hat price again.  $50.  For a screen protector.  For a phone.  Needless to say I was not going to pay this so I asked Jed if I could have it sent to his place and then him send it to me, and he was fine with that.

I only mention this because I recently got one of those random videos from him and it was concerning the item.  I tell you that video made me laugh.  Showed it to a friend who also laughed.  My original plan was to upload it so ou lot could see it.  But the next day I decided it would be cooler if I added something to the clip.  Go that extra yard too.  So I ordered a couple things I'm going to need but it wont get to me for about 3 weeks because australia is about the distance of fucking MARS.  Once I get them I'll try to do the video as quick as I can and have it uploaded.  Hopefully you all get a kick out of it.

  2. I have the RX100 MII and so far it has been fantastic. Takes some really quality photos for being a point and shoot. I think you would really like the MIII if you end up getting it!

    1. I think I'll end up with the MKIII for sure. Though I'm pretty frustrated it doesnt have an inbuilt flash. Having to buy an extra component and attach it on is just annoying. I was looking at the new a5000 since I'd like a camera with interchangeable lenses. I need something specially made for zooming and low light. Its pretty shit that my decade old Panasonic TZ3 has the best zoom ever and none of these new cameras seem to even reach it. If that camera was HD I'd still be using it. Took some amazing pictures and video footage.

I dont see myself buying anything till possibly mid next year. By then the MK4 should be up if they plan on going there.

    2. The flash is definitely annoying. The MKII actually has a connector like the Sony DLSRs that allows you to attach a more powerful external flash which they seem to have gotten rid of on the MKIII. It also has a little pop-up flash that does the job, but could be better (I think the MKIII may have one as well positioned on the top in the middle). The RX100 series is pretty good in low light overall, but the RX10 seems to have both the low light and better zoom than the MKIII. This might be more along the lines of what you are looking for, but it does come with a price tag of about $200.

Oh, and I hope everything works out with Panasonic and your current camera. Sounds like a really shitty situation.

    3. You're absolutely right about the RX100s pop up flash. For some reason I'd thought it didnt have one since I never saw any pictures of it popped up till now. The RX10 is a great camera. The only thing that would stop me from getting it though is the massive size. Absolute monster in comparison. I used to have a lumix GH1 and I dont think big cameras are for me. Mind you that one was horribly difficult to use. I just never got the hang of it. My friend had no problem with it, but my brain just refused. And its auto mode was complete shit.

I mentioned my amazing lumix TZ3 zoom. Heres a picture just to give you an idea of how stupidly amazing it was.

These are uncompressed versions. Run them through a sharpen filter and they look pretty good. For a 7.2 camera that came out back in 2007, I think it does pretty well. Mind you the normal shots you take with it look excellent and sharp. This was up at a distance with a furious sun hitting all that whiteness and reflecting. But anyway, the zoom is what I wanted to point out. In the first picture you'll notice a little white building on the top of the mountain, a little to the left. The second is me zooming into it without the aid of a tripod. No other camera I've had has ever managed to zoom in like that. My Lumix TZ40 has a 20x zoom compared to this ones 10 and its still a joke. If I could get this same camera, but have it upped to HD with larger res pictures, it would be the god cam.

  3. That is some fantastic zoom! The only other camera I've seen that had comparable was my dad's giant Sony DSLR with a huge white lens (can't for the life of me remember which one exactly). The pictures had more detail, but that's obvious being an SLR and newer (and probably much more expensive). I wonder why they didn't just re-release the camera with a larger sensor to make it higher-res.

The RX100 MKII comes with Auto and Superior Auto modes which are awesome. It has other modes offered in the DSLR cameras as well (Aperature, Manual, ISO, etc.) but most of the time I let the camera sort that out and run in Superior Auto mode. It also runs some auto HDR on the picture to try and level out some of the exposure. I'm sure these features are being upgraded for the MKIII and eventually MKIV.

I found this article that explains some of the bells and whistles of buying a new camera. Not sure if you need it or if it will help, but it may help highlight some features you are looking for to help narrow your search when the time comes: http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/2/2663464/camera-buyers-guide.

    1. Thanks heaps for the link. It's always useful reading up stuff like this since I generally forget after a little. I dont use cameras as often as I'd like so my brain gets selective. That Auto and Superior Auto thing is something I've never come across. Generally theres just 1 type of auto. Whats the extra type do and how does it affect the picture?

    2. No problem! And I seem to have fudged the naming a little bit. There is actually Intelligent Auto and Superior Auto. Intelligent Auto works like normal auto from other cameras (auto exposure, ISO, etc.). Superior Auto does the same thing, but runs an HDR on the picture to try to even out the exposure across the highs and lows. It also attempts to reduce the blur in the picture. The Intelligent Auto feature is good for quick pictures, e.g. if the object is moving and you need a really quick snap. The Superior, due to the HDR and other algorithms, does not work as well with moving targets and the time between pictures is slightly longer.

Just a little read on HDR and when it is useful: http://www.digital-photo-secrets.com/tip/3490/what-is-high-dynamic-range-hdr/
