The night before christmas

You have no idea.  You have absolutely NO idea.  Tomorrow is Aliens bluray day.  Its 3:30am and I cant sleep because I know santas bringing me my present.  I spent the afternoon configuring my sound setups settings in hopes of getting it at awesome mode.  I need to do a last minute listen to tomorrow with a few movies I have since I didnt get the chance today after I configured it.  Heaven help whoever is working if they dont get these in as well.  No way am I going to be denied my joy.

Theres not much I can update with today since my brain is just thinking aliens aliens aliens.  I cant focus.  Its annoying when you think of a particular thing and you always get 1 SPECIFIC memory slamming back at you.  Everytime I think of Aliens I remember going to the video rental store and always looking around for stuff to get, way back in the day when the usual weekly rental only cost 50cents here, instead of needing to go on special days liek tuesday.  Lets see...  From memory it was like...50cent weekly, $1 weekly, $3 for 2 day of slightly newer films, and $4-5 for new releases.  50cent weekly movies were amazing.  You just went in, grabbed a crapful of films and went home.

My friend and I used to go every saturday to the rental store, when we were like...hmm...10-12 years old, and we'd go into the scifi and horror section.  We would pretty much just grab anything off the shelf starting from 'A' and work our way down to Z, and then double back for anything we missed or recently came out.  We actually classed it a success if we rented some really horrible films.  Crappy horror films were always entertaining.  Mind you we came across some gold ones like 'From Beyond' and 'Bad Taste'.   My brains trying to recall a few others that are bugging my memory right now, just out of touch, but I dont feel like settling on that to recall them right now.  Oh, Return of the Living Dead.   That was a riot.  Which reminds me I need to get the bluray of that and rewatch it..  But those weekends were always awesome.  Staying up till 1-2 in the morning before he'd head back home, which was across the street from my house lol.

Oh yeah, side tracked there.  So everytime I think of Aliens I recall going through the scifi section and seeing the cover of it and thinking.....is this the one I already saw or not...A year later I'd rent it and it would totally blow my mind.  And I still think to this day, why the fuck didnt I just grab it that first time I saw it.  It was 50cents, who cares if I'd seen it!  It wouldnt be the first thing I rented twice.  Actually thats the same thing that goes through my mind with Return of the Jedi.  I kept thinking that was Empire Strikes Back with a different cover.  I never paid much attention.  Was more interested in horror films at the time.  Awesome films. So here are the 2 covers that will always be imprinted in my memory.

I wish I had more alien things.  I mean sure aside from the dvds and 1 statue, I just want so much more but they're usually expensive and I need to justify the purchase over other things, which are also hard to save up for,  Theres a few things I've always wanted but not enough to buy.  Like how 90% of the thing is so awesome but then theres that 10% part of it that sort of bugs you.  I dont like buying things that give me that vice.  Which is the main reason I dont buy too many things.  One thing I hope to get oneday is this-

Its a little expensive but damn cool.  Maybe someday.  And then we have one item I will most likely never own.  The Aliens chess set.  I love Aliens, I LOVE chess, and seeing this makes me squeel.  Sadly its not on sale anymore, its on ebay though going for $450, which to be honest is probably around what it would of cost when it came out in stores, because it was limited.  I'll just have to roll into a corner and try and pretend it doesnt exist.  Even if theres 28days left on the sale, being jobless means I dont get to buy toys I want, despite buying so very few.  The Aliens bluray set I paid for 3months ago so its not even classed.  I was working so it was fine.  Now I'm not so its just tears.  Heres the link with some pics of the set.  Its just amazing.. No seriously, this thing is fucking amazing.

  1. Very interesting news.....SPAM TIME lol. But yeah Con, I know you like the Lord of the Rings, as do I , and I dunno if you heard of the Hobbit but that is gonna be a movie in 2012. Yeah it's the prelude to LOTR and thought you might be interested. :3

  2. Yup been following news on that. Really looking forward to it. Now if only they'd do something with the Silmarillion. Turn that into a tv show or something of short separate stories. That would be beyond awesome.

  4. Its only a book. If you've read the LOTR and the hobbit then you need to get your hands on it. One of the best books ever made, and tricky to read. If you only saw the movies then you should try to read the books at some stage. Theres stuff in there that never made it to the films.

  10. I would LOVE watching an adaptation of The Silmarillion. It could be a miniseries event or something since it can't be fit into an entire movie and it wouldn't last many seasons if it were a TV show. Gah, I wish the estate would sell the copyrights to the book so that it can get done! I know I'll be among the first in line to watch it. I'm psyched for The Hobbit as well. They couldn't have done better than choose Martin Freeman as Bilbo. He can easily pass off as a younger Ian Holm and he's quite a good actor. Well sorry but I am a bigger LotR nut than I am an Alien nut, haha. XD But that Alien Pile Statue is BEYOND AWESOME. I've been saving up for a Terminator (T-100) collector's statue but gosh that Alien statue is tempting me to change my mind. XP
